Drummond relishing coaching role

Morecambe first-team player-coach Stewart Drummond has said he is excited to be involved in the League Two club's new management set-up.Drummond, along with boss Jim Bentley and assistant Ken McKenna, have taken up the roles following the departure of Sammy McIlroy and Mark Lillis.

"It'll be great to be involved in what goes on behind the scenes," Drummond told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"Hopefully we can inspire and get more youth coming through."

Preston-born Drummond, who is in his second spell with the Shrimps after returning to the club in 2008, has made 366 appearances in the midfield role.

But although he will now also be involved in coaching, he admits he is not yet ready to hang up his boots.

"Obviously at 35 I'm not going to play for ever, although I do think I've got a few years left yet," he said.

"I've been in football for 19 to 20 years and it's a bit of a life changing situation when your playing days come to an end.

"You start to think 'what am I going to do next?'.

"Do you forget the last 20 years of being a player and gaining experience and knowledge? I want to try and put some of that knowledge into Morecambe Football Club."
