"This would have been a really great showcase for the Globe Arena," Morecambe chief executive Rod Taylor told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"There's an indication from the English and Scottish Football Associations that they want to return and host the game with us."

He added: "The referee that came to inspect it initially felt that if it had been a League Two fixture he would've called it off anyway.

Morecambe opened their new facility at the beginning of the season having spent 89 years at their previous ground Christie Park.

And Taylor says players and supporters are quickly becoming accustomed to their new surroundings.

"Football is a very territorial game and you get used to one place which you call home," he said.

"But the atmosphere is beginning to build. We've got great support and the character of the ground is emerging.

"People are creatures of habit and you could go to Christie Park and unless you had a season ticket you could sit where you wanted.

"But the habits are different here. You don't go through a turnstile at the Globe Arena and pay cash for the seated area. You go and buy your ticket and that ticket dictates where you sit."
