McIlroy told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We're not consistent. One or two of the players need a breather.

"I don't know if it's pressure of what we're in. I'm going to be thinking very carefully about my team for Saturday."

The defeat to Macc leaves Morecambe 19th in League Two, nine points clear of the bottom two, with eight games remaining. One player likely to come back in to contention to face Wycombe on Saturday is goalkeeper and captain Barry Roche. The Irishman has missed the last four matches with a thigh injury.

He is expected to replace on-loan Joe Anyon if he comes through a reserve match at Macclesfield unscathed.
