The Shrimps end their campaign at home to Northampton on Saturday still reeling from their heaviest-ever Football League defeat.
"It's a few days ago now but I still can't believe how bad we were," said McIlroy.
"It was my biggest ever defeat as a manager and it hurt.
"It is the lowest I have felt since the play-off semi-final defeat at Dagenham last year and I just hope the players felt as bad as I did."
