Mixed emotions for McIlroy

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy was understandably frustrated following Chesterfield`s late equaliser but was happy with the way his players responded after their 4-0 defeat at Oxford. Substitute Scott Boden missed a glorious chance before slotting home a Dean Morgan cross to salvage a 1-1 draw for the Spireites It was a cruel blow for the Shrimps who looked destined to pick up their first win of the season after a goal from debutant Scott Brown after 25 minutes had given them the lead. McIlroy said: "I made five changes from the side that lost last week and I knew I had to do something after that game. I brought a couple of players in for their first games of the season and they did really well for us. "We were excellent in the first half and played some really nice stuff and with a bit more of a cutting edge we could have had a couple of goals at the break. "But I knew the second half would be different and that Chesterfield would come at us. I was sure John (Sheridan) would have said a few things at the break and they were much better. We had a couple of good chances and their keeper has made a brilliant save at the death but unfortunately we just couldn't hold on."
