Newport's clash with Morecambe abandoned at half-time after heavy rain

Newport's Sky Bet League Two clash with Morecambe was abandoned at half-time after persistent, heavy rain in South Wales.

Tom Owen-Evans had put County into the lead midway through the period with a sublime left-footed volley which looped over Barry Roche in the Shrimps net.

But, with puddles appearing, referee Brendan Malone called time on the game at the break amidst safety concerns.

It was frenetic from the off, as both sides went toe-to-toe on the extremely wet Rodney Parade pitch

Tackles were flying in, and there were early yellow cards for Darren Jones, Joss Labadie and Morecambe's Alex Kenyon.

The visitors squandered the first real opportunity on goal when Michael Rose had a shot blocked.

But, Owen-Evans made no mistake with his chance, though, as he swivelled and shot into the top right corner.

Morecambe's Luke Conlan pounced on Joe Day's loose ball and fired a fizzing shot that forced the goalkeeper to parry.

The conditions were soon becoming treacherous, with uncontrolled tackles flying in, and Malone abandoned the match at half-time.
