Wycombe strike in the second half to sink Morecambe

Two second-half goals gave Wycombe Wanderers a welcome three points against Morecambe with a comfortable 2-0 victory.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, Aaron Pierre gave the home side the lead before Luke O'Nien made sure of the points.

Pierre broke the deadlock minutes in the second period, after a poor first half, with a far post header from Joe Jacobson's free kick, beating Barry Roche from six yards out.

Morecambe hit back and were denied a clear penalty when Matt Bloomfield handled in the box, but the referee gave a free kick which Michael Rose hit against the post.

And the Shrimps' hopes of a comeback were dashed when O'Nien nipped in front of his marker to head Paul Hayes' cross into the Morecambe goal with just nine minutes remaining.

The first half had produced few clear-cut chances but Morecambe did go close when Paul Mullin was found by James Jennings, only to see his snapshot from eight yards well saved by Jamal Blackman in the Wycombe goal.
