Exeter romped to the biggest win of the season with a superb performance against struggling Morecambe.

Alex Jeannin put them ahead after just three minutes and the game was over by half time as marksman Sean Devine grabbed a brace. Gareth Sheldon made it four after the break and in truth Exeter could have won by a bigger margin.

Glenn Cronin exchanged passes with James Coppinger after three minutes and found Devine on the edge of the box. His fine shot was pushed away by Craig Mawson but Jeannin was on hand to stroke the ball home.

Devine picked up the ball on the right and exchanged passes with Coppinger before cutting into the box and thumping the ball home five minutes later.

The third came in the 16th minute. Jeannin found Coppinger who whipped in a low cross beyond the goalkeeper and Devine tapped home his second from close range.

It should have been four after half an hour. Jeannin again had space on the left to whip in a dangerous cross which Barry McConnell somehow managed to put wide from six yards.

Devine came close to completing his hat-trick just before half time but struck the ball into the side-netting from another Jeannin cross.

Exeter picked up where they left off after the break and took just nine minutes to make it four.

Scott Hiley ran 20 yards and found Cronin, whose shot was beaten away by the goalkeeper before Sheldon stroked home the rebound with a cool finish.

Man-of-the-match Coppinger went close to making it five with a shot from a tight angle.

Garry Hunter struck the post with a long-range free-kick for the visitors in the dying minutes but nothing was going to spoil Exeter's day.

It was the Grecians' best performance of the season and keeps them firmly in the hunt for promotion.
