Morecambe 0-1 Wycombe- Match Report

Chairboys secure safety

Wycombe produced the victory they needed to virtually secure npower League Two safety in a forgettable match at the Globe Arena.

Stuart Lewis was the man who sparked the vital win for Gareth Ainsworth's side as he lashed home a shot from 12 yards out in the 55th minute after the Morecambe defence had failed to clear their lines after Matt Spring's deep free-kick was headed into the danger area.

Morecambe hit back with Ryan Williams hitting the post and forcing young goalkeeper Matt Ingram into a decent save but with Dave Winfield and Gary Doherty outstanding they kept Morecambe at bay all too easily.

Wycombe produced most of the early running and created the best of the first half chances.

Midfielder Stuart Lewis tested Andreas Arestidou on 12 minutes with a well struck shot from 25 yards out that forced the home keeper into a good block to his right.

Arestidou blocked again 10 minutes later from a Spring shot and the Shrimps were grateful to Robbie Threlfall on the half hour as Joe Kuffour's cross was heading for the unmarked Joel Grant until the left back produced an important last gasp clearance.

Kuffour then wasted a good chance of his own in the 37th minute when he failed to get a strong enough touch to force in an excellent Spring free-kick.
