Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman ended the season with style with a brace in his side's best away win of the campaign.

Pitman took his tally to 18 for the season with a goal in either half to give the Cherries, who have had a traumatic season, a convincing win over a Morecambe side who had lost just two of their last 19 league games

There was little to separate the two sides for much of the game but it was Bournemouth's clinical finishing which proved decisive.

Eddie Howe's side were handed a dream start when defender Josh Ward beat the static Morecambe 'keeper Barry Roche to a Danny Hollands corner.

Morecambe hit back with Diarmuid O'Carroll being denied by former Morecambe loan 'keeper Shwan Jalal twice in quick succession and Wayne Curtis floating an effort just wide after some neat approach play.

The Cherries should have gone 2-0 up just before the half hour when Roche saved superbly from Brett Pitman and then got up to make an excellent second save from Josh Goulding's follow up.

His blushes were spared however when Bournemouth scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Pacey winger Liam Feeney made it 2-0 with a superb strike past Roche from the angle after latching on to a pass on the right hand side of the area.

The Cherries' top scorer Pitman then showed his skill in front of goal with a superb third three minutes from the break. Pitman took the ball with his back to goal but turned superbly away from Dave Artell before drilling a sweet left-foot shot past Roche's right hand.

The visitors played with flair in the second period with Josh McQuoid and Jeff Goulding going close before Pitman capped a fine afternoon for the Cherries with his second on 69 minutes as he steamed in at the far post to slot home.

The striker had two golden chances to claim a hat-trick before being substituted late in the game, much to his frustration, to be replaced by youngster George Webb.

Morecambe threatened only briefly with Jalal saving a near post header from Wayne Curtis to keep a second clean sheet of the season against his former club.
