Morecambe 1-2 Accrington Stanley- Match Report

Shay McCartan double ensures victory for Accrington at Morecambe

Two goals from Shay McCartan earned Accrington a 2-1 derby day victory over Morecambe.

Stanley dominated the first half and went close to an early goal when Crystal Palace loanee Noor Husin hit the post from 20 yards after just four minutes.

However, McCartan scored the first with a superb free-kick in first-half stoppage time when he floated the ball over the Morecambe wall from 20 yards.

The forward then added a second after 66 minutes when he made the most of a mistake from Alex Whitmore to run on goal and slot the ball past Barry Roche.

Morecambe made a game of it in the second half and pulled one back after 72 minutes through Aaron Wildig

Andy Fleming drove towards the Stanley defence and teed up Wildig, who produced a cool finish to beat Marek Rodak from 12 yards out.

Rodak was Stanley's hero with a stunning late save from Michael Rose as Jim Bentley's side threatened to snatch a leveller.

The Shrimps also had a late chance from a break but Paul Mullin failed to find Kevin Ellison, who was free in the box.
