Morecambe maintained their excellent home form with a late winner.

Skipper Stewart Drummond was the Shrimps hero with a blistering 83rd minute winner that whistled past Burton keeper Matt Duke.

But it could have been a totally different story if Burton had taken advantage of their chances in a dominant first half.

Burton took control from the opening minute when a Craig Dudley cross was hastily beaten away by Morecambe keeper Craig Mawson.

Dale Anderson then produced a glaring miss on four minutes when after rounding the Morecambe keeper he somehow missed the target from just six yards out.

Morecambe came back briefly with Michael Stringfellow firing over and Adriano Rigoglioso forcing Duke into a scrambling save low to his right.

But it was Burton who dominated the rest of the half with former Shrimp Robbie Talbot forcing Mawson into an excellent save low to his left before efforts by Darren Stride, Barry Williams and Jon Howard all failed to test the home keeper.

It was the second half which saw both teams come to life in front of goal with Williams giving Nigel Clough's side a 51st minute lead when his looping header caught Mawson off his line and went in just under the crossbar.

But within seconds Morecambe were level. Dean Howell shared a neat one-two with Stringfellow before the former ran on to produce an excellent finish and score his first goal for his new club.

Both sides then came close to taking the lead with Drummond twice heading narrowly wide and teenage striker Danny Carlton missing two good chances at one end while at the other Anderson was unlucky to see a close-range snapshot cleared off the line by Chris Lane.

Lane then saw a looping header hit the crossbar before the Shrimps sealed the maximum points seven minutes from time when Drummond headed home a Ryan-Zico Black corner.
