Morecambe maintained their unbeaten home record thanks to a superb goal from Kieron Walmsley seven minutes from time.

The teenager struck a superb 25-yard effort that whistled into the bottom right hand corner of Paul Wilkerson's goal to earn Jim Harvey's side an important point.

It was Walmsley's first goal for the Shrimps and it was a vital one after his side had fallen 2-1 behind after Gravesend had scored twice in the space of eight minutes.

It all looked good for Morecambe when Jim Bentley gave them the lead on the hour.

Walmsley was the provider with a neat free-kick into the box that was met by the sliding Bentley who turned the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

That goal sparked a previously drab game into life.

Gravesend keeper Wilkerson kept his side in the game as he made a string of fine saves.

His first was to block a sweet left-foot shot from Wayne Curtis before producing an excellent block from an Adriano Rigoglioso screamer.

Bentley was then denied a second by another excellent save from the giant Gravesend keeper, but after Morecambe's brief flurry Gravesend boss Andy Ford made a double substitution which proved to be inspired.

On came Ben Abbey and Andy Drury and together they caused the Morecambe back four a whole host of problems.

Abbey brought the visitors back into the game with a great header from a right-wing Drury cross to stun the home supporters after 71 minutes.

And they were to be shocked for a second time when Gravesend took the lead eight minutes later.

Rob Haworth was the provider on this occasion with a cross from the right that was turned in by Pat Bradley.

Morecambe, to their credit came back strongly with Danny Carlton shooting inches wide from Rigoglioso's through ball, before the same player played a part in the equaliser.

With time running out the Shrimps launched a free-kick into the Gravesend area, Carlton laid the ball back for Walmsley to unleash a terrific right-foot drive which gave Wilkerson no chance.
