Morecambe picked up a morale -boosting three points in this highly -entertaining fixture at Christie Park.

The Shrimps' second successive home victory was largely due to the skills of Michael Twiss, who scored one and made the other in a fine individual display.

With both sides desperate for points after indifferent starts to the season, Woking's late arrival due to traffic congestion was far from ideal for Glenn Cockerill's side as the game kicked off almost an hour behind schedule.

Despite their limited warm-up, Woking started brightly but Morecambe began to take charge with Adriano Basso saving neatly from Wayne Curtis and Keiran Walmsley in quick succession.

The Cards were made to pay by Twiss for a moment of hesitation after 24 minutes when the Shrimps scored a freak opening goal. Striker Danny Carlton beat Basso to the ball on the edge of the area and played in Twiss, who rolled the ball into the empty net from the edge of the area.

Basso was the central figure once again seconds later when he pulled off a fine point blank save to block from Michael Stringfellow.

After soaking up a long period of pressure, Woking found their feet towards the end of the half and began to cause the Morecambe defence problems. Scott Canham popped up on the edge of the area to float a 20-yard effort just over the bar before bringing his side back into the game with the game's second freaky goal after 38 minutes.

The dangerous Johnson was found in acres of space on the left-hand side of the area, and although his shot was well off target it struck Canham on the knee and ended up in the back of the net.

Woking ended the half on top and began the second period in the same vein with the busy Justin Richards having a shot beaten down by Chris Blackburn and a fine effort well saved by Adam Sollitt. .

Morecambe then hit back themselves and took the lead for a second time.

Twiss was once again the architect with a superb run and shot from the edge of the box which Basso could only parry, and Carlton nipped in to slam home the rebound for his third goal of the season.

Woking battled back bravely with Steve Evans seeing a shot deflected on to the crossbar and Michael Johnson headed into the side netting when he perhaps should have scored.
