Brave goalkeeper Joe Lewis was the hero in Morecambe's second successive League Two victory.

Lewis, in only his second game back after suffering 20 stitches to a head wound after a collision against Rotherham in October, suffered a broken nose after colliding with substitute Andy Mangan but opted to stay on the pitch and produced a string of match winning saves.

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy was full of praise for Lewis, saying: "He could easily have come off but he showed great spirit in staying on and produced some excellent saves.

"For this to happen so soon after his last injury showed great spirit and he made some great saves.''

Morecambe took the lead on ten minutes through skipper Jim Bentley, who volleyed home his second goal of the season from six yards out after reacting sharply to David Artell's flick on.

McIlroy's side then added a second just before the half-hour when Michael Twiss thundered a left-foot shot past the helpless Jim Provett from the edge of the area after a neat turn.

Provett than had to react well to save from Artell's near post flick and Carl Baker's curling free-kick which was heading for the top left-hand corner.

Morecambe came close to adding a third on 50 minutes when Jon Newby hit the crossbar before Bury started to find some fluidity.

Substitute Nicky Adams gave the Shakers a lift and he was quickly involved with shot that flew over the bar, before firing a stinging volley goalwards which forced Lewis into a superb save.

Top-scorer Andy Bishop gave Bury a lifeline on 76 minutes when he slotted home from close range after Lewis had saved Ben Futcher's header.

But then Lewis saved superbly from Liam Hughes, Mangan and the dangerous Adams to help his side to another valuable three points.
