Morecambe kept their play-off hopes very much alive with this vital victory which moved them into fifth in the Conference table.

A goal in either half gave the Shrimps the three points they so badly needed after two successive defeats had caused a few nerves in the Morecambe camp over the past fortnight.

There were plenty of positives for Sammy McIlroy's side, not least the sight of leading scorer Michael Twiss scoring his first goal in 19 league games to fire his side into the lead in the 32nd minute.

Twiss, without a goal in the Conference since October 29 last year, took advantage of some hesitation in the Harriers defence to latch on to a loose ball and turn swiftly before drilling a left-foot shot into the bottom left-hand corner of John Danby's goal.

Twiss then turned provider five minutes from time to give the Shrimps an all-important second to blunt Kidderminster's late charge. As the visitors pushed bodies forwards, the gaps appeared in their defence and Twiss took full advantage with a perfect throughball for Wayne Curtis who calmly slotted home past Danby to seal the points.

In the end it was a game of few chances. Chris Blackburn had a golden opportunity to extend Morecambe's lead on 52 minutes but headed over from close range while Kidderminster failed to test Steven Drench despite plenty of possession.

The visitors indeed should have opened the scoring on 23 minutes. Lee Thompson sneaked in behind the Morecambe defence and squared for Gareth Sheldon who looked sure to score until Blackburn produced a wonderful covering tackle to clear the danger.

From there defender Gavin Hurren headed wide when free at the far post before a period on top after the break saw Sheldon denied once again by a last-gasp tackle as Michael Howard cleared at the near post.
