A stunning last-minute goal from Morecambe substitute Nick Rogan earned the Shrimps a share of the spoils in this six-goal thriller.

Rogan, making a rare first-team appearance, stunned the visitors with a ferocious 25-yard drive which flew into the top right-hand corner of Phil Smith's goal.

It was a strike that earned Jim Harvey's side a point they must have thought was not going to come after the visitors led 3-1 with just seven minutes to go.

Margate's hero was substitute Darren Watson, who clinched a fine hat-trick after coming on early in the game for the injured Jean Michel Sigere.

Watson's first came on 36 minutes after a mistake by Morecambe defender David Perkins, who failed to clear his lines and gifted Watson a free shot just eight yards out.

Despite dominating for long periods it took Margate until the 65th minute before they added a second when Watson took advantage of another gift following a mix-up between Ian Swan and Craig Mawson.

The visitors dropped their guard however and conceded within a minute when teenager Danny Carlton headed home Gary Thompson's cross.

But Margate came back again and looked to have clinched the three points eleven minutes from time when the brave Watson beat Mawson to Smith's long punt and headed the ball into the empty goal.

Watson was stretchered off after the clash with Mawson and he missed the final stages of the game, which proved painful viewing.

Carlton scored his second seven minutes from time after beating the offside trap to set up a stunning finale.

With time running out Morecambe substitute Rogan collected the ball on the left-wing and cut inside on to his favoured right foot to drill an unstoppable shot past Smith to maintain Morecambe's unbeaten home league record.
