Morecambe maintained their excellent run of results on their home patch and in doing so moved back into the Conference play-off positions.

The Shrimps beat Northwich Victoria comfortably with the away side contributing in part to their defeat with some woeful defending.

The Shrimps' goal hero was Robbie Talbot, who maintained his excellent form since coming back from a lengthy injury lay-off with a goal in either half coming after an opener from the impressive Adriano Rigoglioso.

It was the latter who opened the scoring for Morecambe after an excellent counter-attack from the home side.

Stewart Drummond fed Michael Stringfellow in the centre of the park and the latter played in Wayne Curtis whose cross to the far post was slotted home by midfielder Rigolioso.

Northwich then shot themselves in the foot again just two minutes later when Talbot was allowed a free run on goal and he made no mistake with an excellent finish past the helpless Gary Kelly.

Northwich came back with Steve Garvey having a shot beaten down and Chris Royle firing over from distance, but their efforts were few and far between as Morecambe proceeded to dominate.

The home side were rewarded with a third four minutes after the break when Talbot took advantage of a terrible mix-up between Steve Davis and keeper Kelly to slot home from six yards out.

By now Morecambe were rampant with Drummond heading wide after a poor clearance and full-back Dave McKearney flashing a shot across the area.

Substitute Danny Carlton came close to scoring from a fine Stringfellow cross that was deflected inches wide before Kelly did well to save from Gary Thompson's fierce left-foot shot.

Northwich pressed for a consolation goal and Craig Mawson did well to race from his goal and block from Gregg Blundell and Jonny Allan before the visitors scored a consolation goal in injury time.

Morecambe substitute Alan Morgan brought down Blundell in the area and the same Northwich player slotted home the penalty with a cool finish straight down the middle.

It was a win that lifted Morecambe up to fourth in the table and they have now recorded 12 home victories from 15 games and if their away form had been anything like they could well have been challengers for this year's title.
