Morecambe sealed their second home win of the week with a fine second-half performance to beat a frustrated Tamworth.

After a first-half that saw the visitors in charge for long periods the Shrimps came good after the interval and clinched their best win of the season so far.

Michael Twiss once again led the way with the opening goal after 49 minutes when he hammered home a loose ball from close range after reacting sharply when Wayne Curtis' shot came back off the post.

The Shrimps then extended their lead just after the hour mark through Keiran Walmsley who popped up in the box and threw himself at the loose ball to head past the helpless Ryan Price.

The busy Walmsley almost added a superb second nine minutes later when he volleyed Gary Thompson's left-wing cross just over, before the Shrimps added to their lead nine minutes from time.

The Tamworth defence failed to deal with Garry Hunter's through ball and Thompson took full advantage to sneak in between defender and goalkeeper to score his second goal of the week and clinch the victory.

The first half was a largely flat affair with Tamworth starting well and veteran striker Bob Taylor volleyed over the bar at the far post at full stretch in the second minute.

Terry McFlynn clipped an effort wide of the right hand post for Morecambe before the Lambs took control.

Shaun Harrad beat the offside trap but could only fire into the side-netting under pressure from Morecambe keeper Adam Sollitt, before former Shrimps favourite Lee Colkin headed just over at the far post.

The Lambs' best chance, however, was of Morecambe's making. Sollitt saw his weak clearance fall straight to the feet of Taylor 30 yards out, but his attempted chip was just inches too high.

The home side, unbeaten since early September, only really began to look a threat as the half came to a close.

In the 37th minute Curtis found himself in space on the left hand side of the box but could only volley Jim Bentley's flick-on into the side netting.

Tamworth keeper Price was then called into action on two occasions as the half came to a close, saving well from McFlynn and Hunter. The Shrimps carried that dominance through into the second half to take the three points.
