A rare strike from full-back Michael Price handed Scarborough a valuable three-point haul in a thrilling clash with Morecambe.

The strike capped a fine display from Russell Slade's men and brought to an end their winless run.

Neither side settled early on in a tentative opening few minutes, in fact the first real chance didn't arrive until the 15th minute.

Boro striker Mark Quayle was sent scampering clear by Ashley Lyth but his shot flew tamely wide.

The hosts continued to press going close for a second time when winger Tommy Raw headed inches wide.

This seemed to bring Morecambe into action but they found Boro keeper Leigh Walker in outstanding form. Wayne Curtis took advantage of a Steve Baker mistake but Walker greeted his shot with a fine save.

Walker pulled off two more excellent stops before the break to take his side in on level terms.

After the interval Morecambe continued as they had left off in the first half, Chris Lane going close with just two minutes played.

Boro did show signs of their potential with Price bringing a fine save out of Craig Mawson with a close-range volley.

The turning point of the game finally came with 21 minutes to go when home boss Slade introduced Chris Senior into the action. Within seconds of his arrival the former Huddersfield striker won a corner on the right.

The ball was hooked against the bar by Quayle, rebounding out to the feet of Price, who in turn smashed it into the bottom corner of the net.

This sparked a barrage of attacking play from the hosts and they should have extended their lead minutes later when Clint Marcelle beat five players but his shot flew wide.

Quayle again went close in the dying moments with a curling effort, but by this time Boro had done enough.
